We decided that it was time for Nancy to begin work on her PhD so we spent the summer in married student housing at Iowa State University. That was an interesting experience for me with little to do but play golf and play house husband, except that it was not a house but only a dinky two-story apartment. Charles, Margaret, and I did do RAGBRAI in late July. RAGBRAI (the Registers Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) is a 450-500 mile 7-day bicycle ride across Iowa from the Missouri River on the west to the Mississippi River on the east along with 10,000 of your closest friends. This was our fourth consecutive RAGBRAI and, as it turned out, our last for several years to come. |

In the Fall of 1979 it was more of the same on campus, except that the Department Chairman took a leave of absence and we had a temporary Chairman who was formerly a part-time teacher in Computer Science. |

The young couple that lived in the other side of the duplex moved to Denver and the new owner of the duplex, a single lady, moved next door in their place. For Thanksgiving vacation that year we flew to Denver to visit our former neighbors. It snowed about a foot in Denver while we were there. It was beautiful. |
